House hunting in Northeast Ohio including Stark, Summit, Wayne, Holmes, Carroll, Tuscarawas, and Coshocton counties.
Before you start house hunting…
#1 Find a Realtor
Realtor‘s can help make the process of house hunting in Northeast Ohio much easier on you. We have access to every home listed in the MLS in our area. If you come up with a list of wants and needs, specific school districts or areas you’re interested in, price range, and so forth we can generate results to use a guideline for our home showing adventures. Obviously I would love to be your Realtor, but it’s best to find a realtor whom you feel comfortable with and has good reviews so by all means please do your research!
#2 Getting Pre-Approved helps
Dreaming of the perfect house can be fun, but finding the perfect house and then learning that the bank will not loan you the funds needed to purchase that much house can be truly devastating. If you need pointed in the right direction towards some reputable mortgage lenders feel free to contact me.
#3 Research local neighborhoods
Its a good idea to decide which local areas suit your needs. Research school districts, keep in mind how far your commute will be, and check on the local crime. Compare living in a city neighborhood, township, on property outside of town, and subdivision living to see which situation suits you and your family’s needs and lifestyle best. Perhaps you’d love to walk to a little coffee shop? Maybe you’ve always wanted a big garden? Give this some thought, and if you’re married be sure you are both on the same page.
#4 Formulate a Needs/Wants list
What features are most important to you in a home? How many bedrooms do you wish to have in your new home? Bathrooms? Is a large garage important? Fenced in yard? Pool? Open floor plan? One or two floor? You get the idea….sit down and really give some thought to what you cannot live without, and what you would really love in your new home.
Ready…Set…Lets House Hunt!
#1 Dress for the weather
Let me tell you…us Realtor’s work in wind, snow, rain, and even the occasional tornado warning! Examples- If we’re going to be viewing properties with a good amount of land and it’s snowing out boots would be a good idea. Being prepared will let you stay comfortable and be able to focus on the task at hand, which is finding you the perfect home!
#2 Take Notes
Keep some basic notes on each property we review. This can include questions, comments, things you loved, or hated.
#3 Take Photos
You’ve seen the MLS photos of a home, but in person you notice other things you really like or dislike. Maybe there’s a super huge closet that’s a major bonus for you snapping a quick photo will be useful later on during the decision process. Taking photos is simply a way to organize your thoughts and add a visual element to your notes on each property.
#4 Ask Questions
I don’t promise I’ll know the answers to all of your questions, but I do promise that I will get you the answer quickly or point you to the professional that can. Examples- How much are the utilities monthly, who owns the empty lot behind the home, how much are the home owners association fees? there’s no wrong questions its crucial to stay well informed so that you can make the right decision.
